What a fascinating and much-needed PhD project. Mainstream society is so saturated in imagery that can shape and inform how girls see themselves, for better or (more often) worse, and promoting intelligent dialogue about such imagery is crucial. I particularly enjoyed reading about your emphasis on giving a “voice” to young girls, in the face of such imagery. While it’s quite clear the prescriptive feminine ideals on show in the media that young girls consume is not going away, we can give girls power and agency by encouraging them to articulate their own responses to such media, and encouraging them to deviate from the so-called norm. Good luck and great work!
Wow, this article is pleasant, my younger sister is analyzing these kinds of things, so I am going to tell her.
